All You Need is Love

It's been a hard few days. I think everyone around the world can admit to that. There's a lot I would like to say about Sandy Hookl, but most of it has been covered in much better words than I can ever put together, and I still feel a bit too emotional to talk about it.

Instead, I wanted to talk about something that I'm just as passionate about.

Islam.

I'll start by saying I am not Muslim. And I don't plan on converting. But I am married to a man who is Muslim. Which means my family is Muslim.  My students are also Muslim.

To be perfectly honest, all of them are some of the most generous and loving people I have ever met. These are the people who would give me ANYTHING. If I needed something to eat, they'd give me their lunch. If I was cold, I'd be wearing their jacket. If I needed a door opened, they'd rush over to open it. This is why it really destroys me when people go off on Islam and think they know everything about it.

And in today's media, it seems like you can't go a day without seeing some sort of ignorant opinion about Islam. It's so easy to think that the vocal few are the dominate opinion. That all those people that make me ball up my fists, those people who choose to be ignorant instead of learning before they judge something, are what most people think.

And then you see something like this:

How to Deal with Hate-Use Love

And it just reminds you that people are good and loving.  And during this difficult time, it's a reminder I really needed.

So thanks to the random singers, the eye rollers, and those showing their disbelief. I needed the reminder that the vocal few are not the majority.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who realizes they're being idiots.  There really is more love in the world than we think. It's just so easy when it's all the chaos that gets the media attention.

    1. Thank you! I get kind of caught up in the negativity towards Islam. I take it personally because so many of my loved ones are Muslim. It's nice to see others who realize those idiots are being...idiots.
